244. Drinkwater (John) [&] Albert Rutherston. Christmas Eve, the author's own copy signed with the original autograph manuscript and the artist's rough pen and ink design and his fully worked up watercolour design by Rutherstone, and 2 others by Drinkwater (a duplicate of the first mentioned and "Christmas Greetings", all signed by Rutherston, handsomely bound in full red crushed morocco, gilt, by Riviere & Son, 8vo, 1922.

Wednesday 19th June will see Bloomsbury Auctions hold their monthly Bibliophile auction at their Godalming saleroom. This month’s auction of over 500 lots includes the usual array of works on travel and topography, natural history, sport and science, English and continental manuscripts, ephemera, literature and history, and children's and illustrated works.

 

An interesting group of works from the poet and playwright John Drinkwater (lots 243-255) have been the property of a Lady, and include a fascinating selection of autograph manuscripts, drafts, notes and copies of his books that include bookplates. A lovely children’s section include some notable highlights. Lot 473, Thomas Maleroy's Le Morte D'Arthur (1930) is a second edition, one of only 1500 copies, and carries an estimate of £200-300. Similarly A.A. Milne's Christopher Robin Story Book (1932), lot 478 (pictured left), is a first edition and is also set to fetch £200-300. Also included in this lovely section of the sale is lot 449, a Disney lot including Mickey Mouse Presents His Silly Symphonies (1930), The Adventures of Mickey Mouse (1932), Donald and Pluto (movie book), and three other titles carrying an estimate of £300-400.
