Born in Somerset in 1940, Vaughan moved to London in the 1960s where he rose to prominence as a graphic artist.
A commission from Rothmans International to paint their entry to the 1989 Round the World Yacht Race led to a passion for yachting and the challenges of maritime painting. After numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and the USA, including a solo presentation at the Monaco Yacht Club, Monte Carlo, Vaughan established himself as one of the most respected marine painters of his generation.
Collections include the National Maritime Museum, London and the Prince Albert of Monaco Private Collection.
Publications include: Marine Painting, Images of Sail, Sea and Shore , James Taylor in association with the National Maritime Museum Greenwich, Studio Editions Limited, 1995 and Yachts on Canvas , James Taylor, Conway Maritime Press, 1998.
