A pair of George II mahogany hall chairs, circa 1750

Sold for £1900

Est: £1000–1500

A pair of George II mahogany hall chairs, circa 1750, each cartouche shaped back decorated with pierced Gothic motifs, the dished solid seat above tapering cabriole legs and pad feet, 98cm high, 53cm wide, 58cm deep

Marks, knocks, scrathches, abrasions consistent with age and use,
evidence of old wood worm,
These chairs have differences between them, this could be due to honest wear and repair and replacement over age and use, the main differences being the underside of the seats, the treatment of the ears and supports to the legs and the carved details to the backs, this could be due to the chairs being made by different chair makers in the workshop,

4.00% up to 50,000
3.00% between 50,000.01 and 200,000
1.00% between 200,000.01 and 350,000
0.50% between 350,000.01 and 500,000
0.25% in excess of 500,000

Invoices will, as usual, be issued in Pounds Sterling. For the purposes of calculating the resale royalty the Pounds Sterling/ Euro rate of exchange will be the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the sale.
