Ω A Victorian carved and part red stained ivory Staunton pattern chess set, Jaques of London, circa 1870, the white king stamped JAQUES LONDON to the underside, a knight and a rook from each side stamped with a crown, the king 8.5 cm high, the pawns 3.7 cm high; the pieces housed within a stained hardwood box, early 20th century, 9.5cm high, 23cm wide
Please note that this lot (lots marked with the symbol Ω in the printed catalogue) may be subject to CITES regulations when exported from the EU. The CITES regulations may be found at www.defra.gov.uk/ahvla-en/imports-exports/cites
The pieces are in essentially good order, but with the usual very minor chips and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.
Both the red king and the red queen have replaced finials. One red pawn has a replaced spherical top. One red bishop is a replacement.
The red colouring of these replacements does not properly match the rest of the red pieces.
One white pawn is missing its spherical finial.
