A pair of late George III or Regency Bluejohn and fluorspar urns
Sold for £3200
A pair of late George III or Regency Bluejohn and fluorspar urns, early 19th century, each with knopped finial to a domed cover, the bodies with Bluejohn filled stop-fluting, with waisted bronze stems and square section marmo nero Belgio socles, 24cm high overall
Provenance: From the estate of Philippa Bradstock of Longbottom House, Biddesden
It is entirely probable that the bronze stems and black marble bases are later replacements. The original socles might have been damaged and removed at some point, but either way, the proportions of the stems and bases in relation to the urns seem to be innacurate 'to the eye'.
The finial of one urn is chipped to the bead top and also at one side of the projecting knop.
There are naturally ocurring cracks and veins within the mineral but there is no movement in these.
One urn has a glued crack across the domed top, and signs of filler in two places
