Ω A pair of Continental carved ivory and bone figural models, circa 1870
Ω A pair of Continental carved ivory and bone figural models, circa 1870, portraying men standing in Renaissance attire, one with a dagger at his belt and a hunting horn slung behind him, the other with a bag slung behind him, both on hexagonal section plinths with foliate carved edging, 30.5cm high
Please note that this lot (lots marked with the symbol Ω in the printed catalogue) may be subject to CITES regulations when exported from the EU. The CITES regulations may be found at www.defra.gov.uk/ahvla-en/imports-exports/cites
Both figures bear the usual minor knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age. Both figures have various minor naturally occuring cracks within the ivory. These are static and stable. There are more significant detractions, as follow:
The figure with the feathered hat worn on his back.
Fingers missing from left hand, with signs of old glue there.
Modern clear glue holding the feet to the plinth.
A loose element of moulding to the base, currently held with tape.
The figure with the staff.
Both ends of the staff appear to be damaged.
An item is missing from his belt.
Both legs are pegged and dressed with filler around the knees where the figure has been broken in the past. This is an old restoration and was well done, but has now become discoloured.
The right foot is chipped.
The feet are held to the plinth with clear glue.
