first edition, initialled presentation inscription from the author to Alexander Carr-Saunders to endpaper, original cloth, spine ends and corners slightly bumped, near-fine otherwise, 8vo, 1929.
⁂ A superb copy of Stapledon's scarce first published work with an excellent association. Stapledon was awarded a PhD from the University of Liverpool in 1925 and his thesis formed the basis of A Modern Theory of Ethics. In the Preface Stapledon makes specific mention of Carr-Saunders 'for advice on those chapters which refer to biological principles.'
Alexander Carr-Saunders (1886-1966) leading English biologist and sociologist. He was a pioneer in the field of eugenics and was one of the first to raise serious concerns surrounding the issue of overpopulation.
