Sold for £200
(Sir Francis Bond)] Bubbles from the Brunnens of Nassau. By an Old Man, first edition, first issue, half-title, 10 plates "drawn by Burges's patent Paneidolon", all printed on india paper and mounted, occasional spotting, mostly to mounts of plates, original grey-brown fine-weave glazed cloth stamped with design of man striding the globe blowing bubbles in black on both covers, title on spine, uncut, a few short splits to cloth of joints, light trace of ?label to spine, lightly stained, 8vo, by William Clowes for John Murray, 1834.
⁂ Rare. 'The first fully cloth-bound book…which featured pictorial covers. This was a landmark in book design, and must have caused a considerable stir in the publishing world. The idea seems to have been the brain-child of the author, the eccentric Sir Francis Bond Head, Bart' (Eric Quayle, The Collector's Book of Books , 1971).
