[Notes on astronomy and meteorology], 11 vol. only of 12, lacks 1855 vol., autograph manuscript notes, numerous pp., also printed extracts, "The Illustrated London Almanack for 1846", folding printed tables with manuscript notes etc. tipped-in to albums, browned and marked, ink inscriptions recording the presentation from Glaisher to John Lee of Hartwell House, Aylesbury, and further presentation, printed labels with manuscript insertions: "American Geographical Society, Acquired February 20 1895 by gift from S.P. Avery No. 2122", ink stamps of the American Geographical Society on front endpapers, some vol. with armorial bookplates of John Lee on front pastedowns, contemporary half morocco, gilt, worn and rubbed, some covers detached, hinges and joints broken, spines missing or defective, folio, 1846-54 & 1856-57.

⁂ A leading astronomer, meteorologist and balloonist. A month by month and year by year collection of notes, mostly on astronomy.

Notes include: "January [1850] Jupiter is in the Constellation Virgo…"; "Duration of the Seasons… 1854"; "February: successful telescopic appearances of Mercury during 1854"; "Calculations of the times of the Moons' Rising and setting for 1854"; "The Minor Planets"; "A table showing the times of Sun rising and seen setting, and the Length of the day, at all places in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales" etc.

John Lee (1783-1866), antiquary and astronomer; of Hartwell House, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

Samuel Putnam Avery (1822-1904), art dealer, rare book and print collector, and wood engraver; a founder of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Lots marked with a delta symbol (δ) are subject to the Artist's Resale Right Law.The buyer agrees to pay Bloomsbury Auctions an amount equal to the resale royalty and we will pay such amount to the artist's collecting agent. Resale royalty applies where the Hammer price is 1,000 Euros or more and the amount cannot be more than 12,500 Euros per lot. The amount is calculated as follows:

Invoices will, as usual, be issued in Pounds Sterling. For the purposes of calculating the resale royalty the Pounds Sterling/ Euro rate of exchange will be the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the sale.
