Richard Madley has been a director of Dreweatts since 2005 and is the firm's senior representative in the southwest of England. Previously he was at Hamptons (whose fine art and antiques auctioneering activities were acquired by Dreweatts when Richard joined the firm), and he has also worked at Christie's and Phillips Auctioneers, not only in the UK but also in the USA.

With a career spanning five decades, Richard is of that rare breed of auctioneers and valuers with a very broad knowledge base spanning numerous disciplines, including furniture, pictures, ceramics, and rugs and carpets. Whilst his main area of interest is in English furniture he has always been very keen on oriental carpets. But it is in the world of cricket where Richard is best known — being the player auctioneer for the Indian Premier League. Each February he heads out to Mumbai or Bangalore to put the world's top cricketers under the hammer — whilst watched live by an audience estimated to be in excess of 100 million!

A fellow of the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers — Richard sits on the national committee where he advises on the areas of fine art auctions & valuations.
