20th Century Prints and Drawings are an exciting and affordable way to collect modern art and Alexander Hayter will be putting together two sales each year in London together with overseeing sales in our New York office. The diversity of lots offered together with prices starting in the low hundreds ensure that there is always something appealing to private buyers on tight budgets through to works running into the thousands.
Alexander came to Bloomsbury Auctions from Sotheby's, where he spent four years as a specialist in the Modern and Contemporary Prints department. His first sales for Bloomsbury were an immediate success, world record prices were achieved for works as varied as Lucian Freud, Lill Tschudi and Andy Warhol.
His catalogues are vibrant and exciting. There is always a strong selection of works by Picasso, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Gilbert and George, Bridget Riley, Joan Miró and Francis Bacon. Alexander is also a fervent supporter of modern British artists. The ubiquitous Banksy is still a firm favourite but Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin all achieve excellent prices.
Tabitha Philpott-Kent works in conjunction with Alexander. She, too, joined us from Sotheby's and is responsible for cataloguing the extensive range of works that appear in our sales. She has an extensive knowledge of all 20th Century artists.
