English Literature & History

English Literature & History covers a wide but interrelated series of subjects at the core of Bloomsbury Auctions' Printed Book sales and appears in one form or another in most of our catalogues. Our sales have covered all centuries as well as themes, from examples of early printing by Caxton and Wynkyn de Worde to 17th century religious tracts; bibles; early novels & threedeckers; library sets in fine bindings; landmark authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters; and historical figures from Sir Walter Raleigh, Florence Nightingale and the Duke of Wellington to Sir Winston Churchill. After the publicity we attracted through the sale of a previously unknown copy of Shakespeare's First Folio, we now uncover with surprisingly regularity Second and Third Folios for which demand is consistently strong. Our two major sales of the year, usually held in the spring and autumn, are now cornerstones of the book buying world and attract an international crowd eager to find important literary works.
