Children's & Illustrated

The fear that the interest in these 18th and 19th century charming relics of childhoods past might have declined with the sad passing away of many of the generation of major collectors has proved completely unfounded. Prices continue to reach stratospheric levels. As is the case with Modern Firsts, condition is one of the major factors in determining desirability of a Children's book, whether it be an early coloured Harlequinade The Sister Witches, from 1782 or a second issue of Beatrix Potters The Tale of Peter Rabbit, from 1902. Once more the range of material we handle, from Aesop to The Zankiwank and the Bletherwitch (illustrated by Arthur Rackham and usually selling for about £500-600), from Beatrix Potter to Harry Potter, from Doctor Doolittle to Dr.Seuss, from Rupert to Paddington to Edward (Pooh) Bear, is what appeals to our customers.

Re-visit your childhood, look along your shelves, search in your cupboard you might find a Lion and a Witch in there, and in a dust-jacket it could be worth as much as the last one we sold, £6,000. Or start a collection for you and your children and grand-children to love and enjoy. Roddy Newlands and our consultant Mike Heseltine, one of the most respected and knowledgeable figures in the world of Childrens Books, are here to help and advise.
