After Henri Delamarre Grand Prix de Paris, aquatint with hand-colouring, by John Harris, 1866, Paris, London and Brussels, Goupil & Cie., also New York, Knoedler, 635 x 1150mm (25 x 45 1/4 in) *** An early representation of this annual event for 3-year-olds, first insituted in 1863, it is run at the Longchamp course in the Bois de Boulogne. It was interrupted only by the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, and in 1915-16 because of the Great War, and was the richest race in the calendar until the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was introduced in 1920.
