Note reads ‘Christopher Sykes, Paris. Bought on the Quay d’Orsay for 1 Franc. March 20th 1855.’ Perhaps Christopher Sykes, of Sledmere, Yorkshire (1831-98), friend of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) and victim of many of his more obvious practical jokes.
