229. Order of the Garter.- The Armes of the Knightes of the noble order of the Garter, with their severall crestes, in their due places, according to their Creations, in every Princes time, from Edward the thirde, first founder of the said order, in the years of our Lord, 1348, untill this presente yeare 1591, manuscript, calligraphic title and 30pp. of text, full-page watercolour with the arms of the Order, full-page watercolour of the arms of Edward III (slight creasing to edges) and 87 pages of watercolour wash coats of arms on background wood-engraved blank shields and crests with manuscript titles, 8pp. of unused shields and crests at end, manuscript section within ink borders, coats of arms within printed borders, slight soiling to edges, 19th century note loosely inserted, original calf with gilt cental and corner ornaments within gilt rule, later ties, upper cover with small stain, corners bumped and with small repairs, folio, 1591 [ ?early seventeenth century].
