H.G. Wells envisioned a transportation device called a "Telephrage System" to overcome the problems caused by flooding in the trenches. His ideas were reported to the Warfare department of the British army, via Winston Churchill. The reports were seemingly misfiled, in the Royal Flying Corps files, because of the word "aerial" appearing in the title, and were rediscovered decades later by H.G.Wells Society member Rose Tilley. Wells' basic idea apparently became what is now known as the "Leeming Portable Aerial Ropeways" and actually saw combat towards the end of the war.
