269.0

269. Fleming (Ian) Goldfinger, first edition, inscribed dedication from the author on front free endpaper, original boards, very good, dust-jacket, frayed with minor loss at corner tips and spine ends, small closed tear near upper fore-corner of upper panel, slight rubbing to extremities, a few light marks visible on lower panel, overall though very good, 8vo, 1959.

est. £6000 – £8000

The inscription reads “For / Agatha Soames / to the Artist / from / The Author!”.
An important association copy . Edith Mary Agatha Soames (1886-1962) was a first cousin of Winston Churchill's son-in-law, Christopher Soames, M.P. - Fleming actually named one of the characters in the novel Soames: when asked for her name, Tilly Masterton gives James Bond an alias "The name's Soames. Miss Tilly Soames."
