The second, enlarged, edition of "the first important florilegium" (Blunt) which was first published in 1608 with the name of the King Henri IV in the title in place of Louis XIII. The book was produced for Marie de Medici, the consort of Henri IV, and was intended as a pattern book for floral embroidery. Despite its original use Hunt says that “the plates are treated with complete naturalness and botanical accuracy”. Nissen calls for 90 plates only.
