259.9. Cruikshank (George) A Handbook for Posterity: or Recollections of “Twiddle Twaddle”, number 47 of 200 copies initialled by the engraver and publisher, this one of 50 with hand-coloured plates, frontispiece, title-vignette and 60 plates “etched on glass”, original roan-backed cloth, t.e.g., spine ends very slightly rubbed, 8vo, 1896.

Etching on glass was a photographic intaglio process developed by Charles Hancock in the 1860s. The artist drew on a prepared glass surface and this was used to photographically etch the zinc plates from which the prints were pulled.
