The Revolt of Islam represents a revision of Shelley's 1817 work, Laon and Cythna; or The Revolution of the Golden City . Charles Ollier had published that poem in December of 1817, but withdrawn it immediately over fears of prosecution due to its sexual and religious content. The first issue of the revised work mis-printed the publication date as 1817. The present copy is a second issue, featuring the correct date and an errata sheet, as well as a very handsome provincial binding.
