
3. Ash’s Kafeekanne, a small churn-like copper jug with two handles, removeable lid, a spout with hinged lid at top and a tap at bottom, 280mm. high

According to the name plate the jug was made by the Piston Freezing Machine & Ice Company and the design was registered in March 1868, but it is not clear whether it was originally of later adapted as a piece of conjuring apparatus. The jug can be emptied using the tap, and shown to be empty, but when tipped a large amount of water can be poured from the spout. A letter from Eddie Dawes suggesting that the piece is most likely a “one off” is included in the lot.
