After studying at the Slade, 1909-1913, William Roberts joined Wyndham Lewis in founding the Vorticist movement the following year. But, unlike Lewis and Edward Wadsworth, who explored the abstract potential of their geometric style, Roberts continued to use it to view the more everyday world, as in this study of a suited man, angularly poised, the outstretched hand picked out in a different medium.
