“To: Mr Planta Stamps September 14th 1827… At my interview with Mr Harris and you in… July last it was determined that a principal Officer of Stamps in Ireland should be appointed with the Title of Comptroller General of Stamps and a salary of £900 per annum. It is at the same time appeared to Mr Harris that a principal Office of Stamps in Scotland… . The appointment of a Comptroller General in Ireland is clearly necessary as long as the Stamping Establishment is continued in that Country… .”
