75. Besant (Annie, theosphist and politician in India, 1847-1933) 8 Autograph Letters signed to a variety of people and notes for a ?speech, 12pp., 8vo, London, Simla & v.p., 8th August 1877 - 28th May 1906, on a variety of subjects including ghosts, “‘Sir, I do not approve of your article. There are no such things as ghosts, & it is wicked to photograph them’. So wrote an irate subscriber to the editor of a journal, which had contained an article on ‘Spirit Photography.’ Now I do believe in ghost, though I do not give them the exalted position awarded to them by my Spiritualist friends. I believe there are ghosts belonging to living & to dead bodies; that each of us have a ghost inside us, which is available as the vehicle of our intelligence if we want to travel in supersensuous regions & that occasionally the ghost may slip out without asking permission & may ‘produce phenomena’ puzzling & even distressing to the uninstructed mind”, folds.
