Rare poster depicting Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu followed photographic portraits of 24 heroes from various battles during the Liberation War. Their identities vary from enlisted men and women of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Navy to the militia. Most are in military uniform and were either awarded medals or elected heroes/model soldiers for special contribution towards victory. Each is accompanied by a brief biography. Many cartoon books were published to popularize these heroic stories and some became high-ranking military officials. The poster mentions using a new printing technique of rubber stereotype plates to produce the colored images.
