Captain Linnaeus Tripe, an army officer employed by the East India Company, served in the Indian army from 1839-1873. In the 1850s, when he became photographer to the British Colonial Government in India, his first assignment was as official photographer to the diplomatic mission to the Burmese capital, Amerapoora. This view was taken during the mission.
