[Walker (George)] The Costume of Yorkshire, first edition, English and French text, 40 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates by R.Havell after Walker, lacking frontispiece, contemporary red straight-grain morocco, gilt, greek key-border to covers, spine gilt, a little rubbed, [Abbey, Life 432; Colas 3044], folio, 1814.

Includes the famous plate of the collier which depicts in the background the first representation of a steam-engine on rails, built by Murray & Blenkinsop in Leeds in 1812, about two years before Stephenson’s engine. Other subjects include local trades such as farmers, whalebone scrapers, a dog breaker, factory children, jockies and some gentlemen hawking.
