2. Leonardus de Utino. Sermones quadragesimales, first edition, 398 ff. only (of 404, lacking a1 (contents f.) and F9-G3, all supplied in facsimile), double column, 52 lines, Gothic letter, capitals and paragraph-marks in red or blue, first capital in red and blue and with a 13 line marginal flourish in red, occasional early ink marginalia, numbering and finger-posts, a few ff. with small areas of water-staining at foot, a few small stains or marks, mostly marginal, particularly to k5-7, attractive 18th century dark green crushed morocco, spine in compartments and richly gilt, covers with triple gilt filet borders, spine repaired and faded to brown, upper cover marked, rubbed, g.e., [BMC V, 192; Goff L-143; Hain 16117], folio, Venice, Franciscus Renner, de Heilbronn with Nicolaus de Frankfordia, 1473.

*** Leonardus Matthaei de Utino (1400-1470) was a highly acclaimed preacher who became Professor of Theology and Rector of the Dominican school at Bologna. He was a devoted follower of Thomas Aquinas and addressed the Councils of Florence and Ferrara.
