Folio, 292 x 200 mm. Contemporary English blindtooled calf, covers with double fillet frame enclosing a center panel of triple fillet with single small scallop shell corner ornament, a large ornamental lozenge at center flanked by initials IW, three of the six spine compartments with leather renewal of poor quality, upper joint split but cords sound, covers worn, especially at corners, a few stains internally but overall a good copy in its primary binding.
 
FIRST EDITION, black letter, title in pictorial border, criblé and other decorated initials. STC 7388; Beale R481.
 
Provenance: John Wyncott, signature on title and initials on binding. There are copious manuscript notes throughout the text. The upper paste-down contains a contemporary manuscript list of "Law bookes I have Jan. 1591" comprising over thirty titles, as well as lists of other authors. On the title-page is the exhortation "pray, pray, pray and after study, study, study"; Dukes of Manchester, Kimbolton Castle, modern bookplate.
